Students, educators and other professionals from the health care practice community descended on the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton, Ontario this past weekend to participate in the 2010 NaHSSA Conference.
The National Health Sciences Students’ Association did a great job of organizing their yearly gathering and bringing together some of the brightest lights in the future of Canada’s collaborative interprofessional health care.
The theme for this year’s event was Interprofessionalism: At the Heart of Healthcare.
The three day event featured some cool events like the Ontario Health Care Team Challenge as well as inspiring and informative speakers, and the election of the incoming executive council at the Annual General Meeting.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the Conference Gala that was held at the excellent Art Gallery of Hamilton.

The weekend featured some great presentations by Dr John Gilbert, Dr Alan Neville, Dr Nick Kates & an strong finale by Dr Patty Solomon.
All in all a great weekend in Hamilton. The organizers should be proud of their work.
I hope that the strong feeling of community and collaboration that existed among all the participants this past weekend continues into the future.

And… because social media is a huge collaborative tool the CIHC would like to invite you to join us on Facebook, too. And click @CIHC_ca to follow our tweetings.

See you next year!

These are some cartoons relating to interprofessional collaboration that have been commissioned by the CIHC and are ‘Open Source‘ which means they are free for all to use.
Please feel free to copy them to your computer and share them (right click on your mouse and choose ’save image as’ in the drop down menu. Then give the file a name that you will remember later (this is very important
)

Hello,
Many thanks to all who participated in the recent teleconferences. Your thoughts and feedback were invaluable and we look forward to moving ahead.
As part of Mainstream, we’re hoping to expand our reach to include members of the practice community who haven’t previously been engaged in CIHC.
One of the areas we’re looking at closely is the use of social media, both to introduce CIHC to a new audience, and to open up new avenues of discussion. Before we move ahead on these social media platforms however, we would like to gather a bit of information on how each of you interact with tools such as Facebook, Twitter or Blogs.
Below you will find a link to a quick survey that will help us better understand how we can use these new technologies to build our network and connect with members of the practice community.
Your results are confidential and will be used for our learning purposes only. Thanks in advance for taking the survey. Please do not hesitate to be in touch should you have any questions.
Survey:
You can take the survey by clicking this link right here -> Take The CIHC Social Media Survey.
Best Regards,
Ellen, Val and Andrea.

Click to watch Stephanie's journey through the healthcare system after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
This is great! BRAID (Bridging Relationships Across Interprofessional Domains), which is one of our IECPCP projects has just launched a new video about collaborative patient-centred care. The video follows the story of a fictitious young woman who’s diagnosed with lung cancer and how her healthcare providers worked with her and each other to provide really excellent care!
