    Dal Media Reports on CABII

    May 29th, 2009

Nice to see the Dalhousie newspaper not only reporting on CABII, but getting a bit into the issues and importance of interprofessional education and collaborative practice.  Nicely done!

    Collaborating II a Huge Success!

    May 25th, 2009

Congratulations to the organizers and participants at Collaborating Across Borders II in Halifax, which took place May 20-22.  The Conference was truly amazing, with more than 450 participants and 150 presentations.  The only frustration (other than slow elevators) was the fact that there were so many quality presentations, it was impossible to attend everything you wanted to see.  CIHC was well represented by the steering committee and a huge number of members.  We also launched our brand-new-look presentation booth (be honest, did you notice it was different?)

Great show everyone!  It was great to come together again, and spend some time talking about the work we’ve done over the past year.  Looking forward to seeing everyone in Australia for All Together Better Health.  Thanks for making CABII such a success!

Why you can’t compare sports teams with interprofessional health care teams

Notions of good teams and teamwork are often linked to sports teams. Clearly, football, rugby, hockey and basketball teams all require high levels of teamwork to succeed.  As well as having talent to play as an individual, members need to be effective team players who can interact and react with their team mates, as well as to anticipate their movements on the field of play.  While the use of sports teams analogy has some resonance with interprofessional health care teams, one must be aware of the very limited nature of this comparison.  For example, in sports the ball has no agency.  It is kicked or hit rather than cared for and is highly replaceable.  Also, the primary purpose of sports teams is Read the rest of this entry »

    CIHC/CAME Workshop A Huge Success

Yesterday the CIHC and CAME (the Canadian Association for Medical Education) held a joint workshop in Edmonton on the last day of the Canadian Conference on Medical Education.   The workshop, Interprofessional Education in Health: Integration, Implications and Outcomes was a great success, with good turnout from across Canada and a great lineup of speakers.  CIHC’s Evaluation Director, Scott Reeves, provided an update on the State of the Evidence in IPE which was well-received, particularly since many have been wondering about the outcomes of the IECPCP projects.  Hopefully we’ll have more opportunities to work with CAME in the future.  Thanks to everyone who took part and helped make this day a success!
