Awards of Merit for Excellence in Interprofessional Education
Awards of Merit are available annually:
o Excellence in Interprofessional Education Teaching
o Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Interprofessional Education
o Outstanding Team Role Modeling Interprofessional Care
• Closing date for nominations is April 15th, 2010 at noon. No late submissions will be considered.
• As part of your nomination package, please specify in which of the three categories the nominee should be considered.
• Individuals/teams who have been previously nominated and have not won an award remain eligible to apply.
Eligibility
Educators/Preceptors affiliated with the University of Toronto who have had teaching or supervisory responsibilities directly with U of T students are eligible.

Category 1: Merit for Excellence in Interprofessional Education Teaching
The award is for excellence in IPE teaching over a two-year period.
Criteria:
• Demonstrates mentorship and role modeling of interprofessional collaboration.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge of interprofessional education.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills with learners, patients and colleagues.
• Demonstrates the ability to:
o Enhance learning.
o Develop, teach and/or deliver effective educational programs.
o Use innovative teaching methods.
o Stimulate critical thinking.
Recipients: Individual or a team of teachers
Nomination Materials:
• CV (individual nomination only)
• Letter from nominator reviewing how the nominee meets the criteria of the award (include email contact for nominee(s))
• Summary of IPE teaching components of teaching dossier
• 1-page summary of evaluations of IPE teaching performance (where available) OR materials supporting impact of teacher on learners
• Student letter of support (2 – 4 maximum)
• Peer letter of support (2 – 4 maximum)
Documentation may include:
• Course program(s)
• Abstract of lecture(s)
• Hand-outs or syllabus, if applicable
• Participants’ comments
2. Merit for Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Interprofessional Education
This award honours excellence in interprofessional education. It recognizes a teacher either community-based, hospital-based or university-based whose unique and innovative contribution has had a significant impact on the development of interprofessional education at the University of Toronto.
Criteria:
• Demonstrates leadership qualities in the domains of visionary and inspirational leadership, engaging stakeholders, scholarship, administration and sustainability of their contribution to interprofessional education.
• Promotes interprofessional education and inspires others to lead.
• Demonstrates the ability to coach/mentor, and role model interprofessional collaboration.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge of interprofessional education.
• Advances research in interprofessional education and interprofessional care.
Recipient: Individual – The nominee must hold a faculty position within the University of Toronto.
Nomination Materials:
• CV
• Letter from nominator reviewing how the nominee meets the criteria of the award (include email contact for nominee)
• IPE teaching dossier that provides evidence of the candidate’s exemplary scholarship
• Letters of support (4 maximum) describing the nominee’s contributions, background materials fully describing the original approach, and documentation outlining the impact.
3. Merit for an Outstanding Team that Role Models Interprofessional Collaboration for Patient-Centred Care to Learners
This award honours an outstanding health care team that demonstrates collaboration among different health-care professionals to support excellence in the delivery of patient-centred care. It is given to an established team that is recognized for its ability to role model and teaches the competencies necessary for health professionals to practice collaboration. Learners can be defined as those at any time along the professional career trajectory i.e. pre-entry to practice, post-entry to practice, graduate – level etc.
Criteria:
• Demonstrates mentorship and role modeling of interprofessional collaboration.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge of interprofessional education.
• Demonstrates leadership in providing interprofessional education to healthcare learners.
• Demonstrates the ability to:
o Enhance learning.
o Develop, teach and/or deliver effective educational programs.
o Use innovative teaching methods.
o Stimulate critical thinking
Recipients: Individual or a team of teachers
Nomination Materials:
• Letter from nominator reviewing how the nominee(s) meets the criteria of the award (include email contact for nominee(s))
• Two letters from professional learners who have been positively impacted from their experiences with the healthcare team describing the team’s contributions towards interprofessional collaborative patient- centred care and how they are able to demonstrate and teach this type of care to learners.
• Summary of evaluations of IPE teaching performance, patient testimonials or other materials supporting impact of teaching on learners
• Peer letter of support or other commendations from hospital or education administrators (2 – 3 maximum)

I wasn’t aware of the Centre for Interprofessional Education – do they have faculties based anywhere outside Toronto, as it rings a bell. Intersting stuff here.
